Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
